All preoperative and postoperative care is provided in Dr. Friedman's private office. One of the most important considerations is where to perform surgery. Some plastic surgeons operate in their offices, but this can potentially raise certain safety issues, and safety should never be compromised.

Dr. Friedman has chosen Saint Francis Hospital in San Francisco to perform the majority of his surgical procedures. He has years of experience working with their staff and has found their facilities to be second to none. The entire staff that comes in contact with our patients has been specially trained in all the nursing, medical and surgical aspects of plastic surgery. Safety, comfort and expertise are the hallmark of patient care at Saint Francis.

While a number of factors are involved in selecting a qualified and competent plastic surgeon, we believe that none is more important than board certification. This benchmark simply verifies that the doctor has been fully trained in an accredited plastic surgery residency and then passed an extremely rigorous oral and written examination.

Dr. Friedman was certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1973. This board is not to be confused with several other sound-alike plastic/cosmetic surgery boards that do not require training in a plastic surgery residency and are NOT recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialists.

Dr. Friedman's formal training to become a plastic surgeon spanned a period of seventeen years. Beginning in 1956, this included pre-med undergraduate and medical school at Ohio State University, an internship at Mount Zion Hospital and Medical Center in San Francisco, military service as a flight surgeon in Vietnam, a general surgery residency at Marquette University and a plastic surgery residency at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco.

Dr. Friedman then began his private practice in San Francisco in 1973. After first building a solid foundation in general and reconstructive plastic surgery, he then chose to focus his attention entirely in the area of cosmetic surgery. To remain on the cutting edge, Dr. Friedman has continued to upgrade his knowledge and hone his skills with the latest proven techniques in plastic surgery. To name just a few, these include endoscopic forehead rejuvenation, laser skin resurfacing and ultrasonic liposuction.

During his 25 years of practice, Dr. Friedman has devoted additional time and energy to teaching other plastic surgeons in training, lecturing on the latest techniques in plastic surgery and authoring numerous articles and chapters in various professional publications. He has also served as Chief of Plastic Surgery for 10 years each at two major San Francisco hospitals. He has received the American Medical Association's Physician Recognition Award in Continuing Medical Education for each two-year period that it has been presented since 1977. Dr. Friedman has been board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery since 1975.

Dr. Friedman is a member of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, along with numerous other medical societies and associations. He has been awarded the ASAPS Certificate of Advanced Education in Cosmetic Surgery, and has been named in Strathmore's Who's Who as a select member of distinguished plastic surgeons.
