Dr. John J. Corey is an Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon who has practiced in Scottsdale, Arizona, since 1993, after completing additional cosmetic surgery training in Brazil (see below). Board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, he was Chief of Plastic Surgery at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix from 1994-1999. Dr. Corey performs exclusively cosmetic plastic surgery. He lectures at Arizona State University, Gateway Community College, and helps in the instruction of residents in plastic surgery at the Mayo Clinic. He is an Affiliate Assistant Professor at Midwestern University. He is one of the most respected and sought-after faculty members at the Osler Institute which provides hands-on review for practicing plastic surgeons nationwide who are preparing for their own Board certification. In 1998, Dr. Corey was voted one of the top doctors in plastic surgery by Maricopa County physicians in a CBS Channel 5 poll.
Dr. Corey's approach to plastic surgery draws on his training here in the United States as well as Brazil. After graduating from the University of Utah School of Medicine and fulfilling prerequisite training in general surgery at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, he entered the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta to begin his plastic surgery residency. It was there that he met Dr. Renato Saltz, one of his professors, who introduced him to some of the surgical concepts from Brazil. It was also in Georgia that Dr. Corey was able to meet Dr. Ivo Pitanguy, another Brazilian plastic surgeon known throughout the world. Intrigued by the Brazilian approach to plastic surgery, Dr. Corey traveled to Brazil in July 1993 to study with Dr. Pitanguy in Rio de Janeiro as well as with other surgeons in other cities. His training there taught him to view plastic surgery from a more artistic standpoint: "Brazilian surgeons seem to have a different 'eye' for aesthetic surgery…a different way of analyzing beauty and the human form. We Americans have a tendency to be very technical. We want to know exactly how much to contour and how much to measure. Brazilians seem to approach procedures more artistically. They don't rely on applying the same measurement to every woman. They really believe in sculpting the form and creating the curves and lines of the feminine shape." Dr. Corey knows the importance of focusing on each patient as an individual. "People are paying the doctor to speak to the doctor, and, while much information can be given by other office personnel, that cannot take the place of the doctor-patient relationship." Dr. Corey further explains, "I have attended medical meetings where speakers will get up before an audience and, with great pride and boasting, report how little time they spend with a patient. I believe the patient ends the visit, not the doctor." To further ensure effective communication with his patients, Dr. Corey speaks both Spanish and Portuguese. Since moving to Scottsdale, Dr. Corey has incorporated many principles designed to enhance the focus on the individual into his own practice. His waiting room is open and relaxing and captures the tranquil feeling of an art gallery or museum. There are no barriers to separate and depersonalize the staff. Dr. Corey himself offers the best description of his philosophy, "I really believe that when someone comes to me to have their body altered, there needs to be a certain comfort level – a calming focus that makes it seem for a few moments that the patient and the doctor are the only ones on the planet."

State-of-the-art digital photo equipment is available for close examination of your surgical progress and your final result. With computer access in the individual exam rooms, your photo file can be easily viewed and copies printed, should you desire.
There is a spacious procedure room for small matters requiring only local anesthetic. The room's sound system provides elegant, calming music to help you relax.
Financing with outside companies can be arranged in the office.
Overall, we believe that visiting our office should be an enjoyable, informative and comforting experience.
